Havening Therapy with Mandy Brouse

Havening Therapy®, commonly referred to as Havening, is a psychosensory modality that has gained recognition in the world of psychology. It is a non-invasive technique that aims to reduce stress, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms by using a combination of touch and visualization.

Developed by Dr. Ronald Ruden, a New York-based physician, in collaboration with his brother, Dr. Steven Ruden, a British psychologist, Havening is based on neuroplasticity, wherein the brain can change and adapt throughout our lives. Havening is grounded in the premise that challenging emotions and memories are held in the brain and can be accessed and altered through specific sensory input.

The Havening technique involves the application of somatic touch to specific points on the body, known as Havening touch or Havening points. This touch stimulates the production of delta waves, which are slow brainwaves associated with deep relaxation and the processing of emotional memories. The goal of Havening is to desensitize the individual to the traumatic memory, reduce anxiety and stress levels, and ultimately, help the individual regain control over their emotions and reactions to triggering situations. While some practitioners will apply touch to their clients, many also direct clients to self-havening during a session. This encourages client autonomy and self-determination, and its application is a very effective tool between counselling sessions.

Havening is particularly effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), phobias, anxiety, and panic disorders. However, it can also be used for a range of emotional and psychological struggles, such as depression, grief, addiction, low self-esteem, stress, increasing confidence, and increasing relaxation.

Havening is a safe and holistic technique, and individuals who have experienced traumatic challenges or are struggling with emotional issues can benefit greatly from it. However, it is essential to note that Havening should only be conducted by a trained and certified practitioner to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual undergoing the technique.
